by Ali on December 20th, 2022

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
