Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and moved to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he played extensive hours and lose most times. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus attention more on poker.

The real advancement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of NL holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
