Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

While it seems complicated at first, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous individuals trying for the high, and several trying for the low.
