Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Ali on October 28th, 2012

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
