Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
