Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Ali on Sunday, February 19th, 2023
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
