Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Ali on February 14th, 2025
Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
