Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
