Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
