Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in nearly every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complex initially, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi-low provides an amazing range of betting options and because you have several individuals battling for the high hand, and many shooting for the low hand.
